Volunteers breathe life into our mission to preserve, protect, and enhance Shelby Park and Bottoms. Volunteers are at the heart of Friends of Shelby: planting trees, picking up trash, maintaining trails, assisting with special events, and helping with various larger projects.

Help Friends of Shelby host the families of our Park Explorers for a day of nature-filled fun! Through our Park Explorers Program, Friends of Shelby brings park and nature-related content to elementary school students and, in turn, brings the students into the Park to explore and learn. On Family Day, we are welcoming the families of these students to come enjoy time together at the park, with free snacks and yard games.

Our summer concert series is back — same great shows, but with a new name! We could use help with set-up, ticketing, parking, kids crafts, and clean-up. All volunteers get a free Friends of Shelby t-shirt, a free drink ticket, and entry to the show. Who wouldn’t want to listen to a great concert while volunteering?

Trail Mulching in Shelby Bottoms - Wednesday, May 29th from 9-11 am

With miles of natural trails snaking all throughout Shelby, they occasionally need some love after a good rain. By spreading mulch on low spots in our trails, we’ll help ensure that they can be hiked all throughout the year. This is a great opportunity to give back to Shelby if you already love and use our natural trails, or if you’re looking to learn more about what trails we have to explore!

Community Group Volunteer Program

Friends of Shelby loves to work with groups. Whether it's your ten-person office or your 100-person church, please reach out and see if we have a project that would suit your goals. Friends of Shelby helps coordinate the project and provides tools, gloves, and work project assignments to match the size and capabilities of any volunteer group.  Each volunteer day begins with an orientation including the goals of the park improvement effort, tool training, and general safety rules.
